Save the date for Saturday, July 7, when Cowpens National Battlefield will hold its Celebration of Freedom event.
This
free event kicks off with a guided battlefield walk at 12:30, and local
reenactors will give weapons firing demonstrations every hour on the
quarter hour from 1:15 p.m. - 5:15p.m. To set the mood for the evening
activities, there will be special reading from the Declaration of
Independence at 6:45. The Spartanburg Community Band will play patriotic
music from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on the lawn behind the Visitor Center.
The Chesnee branch of the Spartanburg County Library will sponsor
children's activities from 5:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m., and the park will
sponsor them from 7:00 pm - 9:00 p.m. The fireworks display by Zambelli
Fireworks will begin at 9:05pm.
Please
note that there will be no food vendors in the park. Restaurants and
fast food are located in both Chesnee and Gaffney. While supplies last,
water and soft drinks will be available for purchase at the Visitor
Center. Bring a picnic and celebrate our freedom with your family and
friends.
Park
regulations prohibit personal fireworks, sparklers, glow-sticks, etc.
For our visitors' safety, the battlefield area will be closed between
5:30 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. to stage and shoot the fireworks. Please bring a
flashlight since it will be dark when returning to your vehicle after
the fireworks display.
In the event of inclement weather, only the fireworks display will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 8, 2012.
